November 11 is Veterans Day – a day to honor the men and women who have served bravely on behalf of our nation. It’s a time to celebrate their commitment, their selfless service, and the sacrifices they have made so all Americans can enjoy freedom.

Every city and town in the Commonwealth has a Veterans’ Service Officer (VSO) to help veterans learn about and apply for a range of federal, state, and local benefits to which veterans and their dependents may be entitled.

Additionally, the Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) assists veterans with:

Qualifying veterans receive financial assistance for food, shelter, clothing, housing supplies, and medical care.

Financial assistance such as tuition waivers and scholarships is available, including scholarships for family members

Veterans can receive job-search assistance from Local Veterans’ Employment Representatives (LVERS) at the One-Stop Career Centers located across the state.

Veterans can enroll in VA Healthcare, find information on VA Healthcare locations, Women’s Health, and the Transitional Assistance Program (TAP) — an intensive five-day course designed to ease the transition of military personnel into civilian life.

Eligible veterans or their spouses can benefit from the pension program. There are also motor vehicle benefits, family benefits and federal benefits and services available.

Veterans can request copies of their military records and information on medals and veteran cemeteries.

Massachusetts veterans are eligible for home loans, tax exemptions, transitional housing, and permanent housing.
