There’s always plenty to do in Massachusetts in the summer. While so many options are available for you, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services has a couple suggestions on how to enjoy the summer.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a staple of summer time activities; visit a farmer’s market near you for a chance to support local businesses and farmers, and of course, the great food!

SNAP benefits as well as Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons can be used at farmer’s markets.

Veterans & Seniors Appreciation Day: July 30th

On July 30th, a Veterans & Seniors Appreciation Day event will be held as part of Beverly’s 2016 Homecoming celebration will be held at Cooney Field in Beverly. The event will feature free hot dogs, popcorn, and soda, a “play with the players” area for local youth and adult day care facilities, and a vendors area for local businesses.  Dan Clark, better known as “The Singing Trooper” will be preforming the National Anthem, which will open a baseball game between the Salem-Beverly Senior Legion team and the Boston Astros from The BASE program. This event is quickly approaching, so mark your calendars!

Waltham COA Health and Wellness Fair: August 22nd

On Monday, August 22nd, there will be the Waltham COA Health and Wellness Fair at the Embassy Suites Hotel. This fair, sponsored by the Waltham Council on Aging will provide lunch as well as a chance to win raffle prizes. While you’re there, stop by the Executive Office of Elder Affairs table!

Marshfield Fair Senior Day: August 23rd

Senior Day at the Marshfield Fair will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd. Senior admission will be free on that day. EOEA will also have a table at the fair. Come join in on the festivities!

Please take advantage of these summer activities offered by EOHHS departments and agencies, and while you’re out having fun, be sure to stay safe.

The Department of Public Health (DPH) has provided car and water safety tips: http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/gov/newsroom/press-releases/dph/dph-issues-reminder-on-summertime-safety.html

Have fun this summer, and stay safe!
