Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day in Massachusetts posted on Feb 14

February 14th is recognized as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day under Massachusetts General law. The primary purpose of Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day is to raise awareness of Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) which, according to the American Heart Association, is the most common birth defect, affecting more than 40,000 babies born in the United States each year.

April is Autism Awareness Month posted on Feb 2

Massachusetts General Law dedicates April to raising awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which is estimated to be the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. On Monday November 27th 2017 Governor Charlie Baker ceremonially signed into law new legislation that increases the current penalties for fraudulent use of disability parking credentials. Joined by members of the Senate, House, Registrar of Motor Vehicles, Inspector General, as well as representatives from the Massachusetts Office on Disability, the new legislation aims to protect those who truly need accessible parking.
