August and September are peak season for Massachusetts local farmers’ markets which are now overflowing with summer produce at its best. Last week, August 21-27, was Massachusetts Farmers’ Market Week and there is no better time to visit your local farmers’ market to stock up on healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
No car? No problem! Many farmers’ markets in the Boston area are conveniently located near MBTA subway stations. Over 20 markets in the Boston area are located within easy walking distance of the Red, Orange, Green and Blue lines.
If you ride the Red and Orange Lines, look too for our MassGrown & Fresher ads from mid-August through mid-October. Our colorful ads integrate a QR Code, which when scanned with a Smartphone will direct you to a cornucopia of Boston area farmers’ markets and farms, wine and cheese makers, agricultural fairs, pick-your-own orchards, and much more! It’s like a supermarket barcode on steroids. The site also has an interactive “Agri-Google” map http://www.mass.gov/agr/massgrown/map.htm to help you find specific locations around Boston and across the entire Commonwealth.
Thanks go to MassDOT Secretary Davey for his enthusiastic support for this campaign.
Here is a list of farmers’ markets you can access from the T. So hop on board and enjoy!
