The February monthly meeting of the Public Health Council included an informational update from Public Health Commissioner Monica Bharel, the consideration of a single Determination of Need (DoN) request, a vote on final regulations, and an informational presentation by staff in the DPH Communications Office.

First the Council heard an update from Commissioner Bharel on the latest quarterly data on opioid overdose deaths in Massachusetts.

Next the Council took up a DoN request from Partners HealthCare System, Inc. for substantial change of service to add three MRI units. Following a discussion, the Council voted to approve the request.

The Council took up a request for final promulgation of 105 CMR 665.000, Minimum Standards for Retail Sale of Tobacco and Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems. The Council voted to approve the regulation.

Finally, DPH Director of Health Marketing Suzanne Crowther provided an informational presentation on how the Department’s extensive public awareness campaigns are developed and implemented.
