The Department of Revenue's Division of Local Services has launched a new web page to more easily provide Technical Assistance to cities and towns in search of best practices, tips on sharing services and regionalization, Excel-based financial calculators, and a list of Q and A's that will grow over time.
This redesigned page is full of information and tools for local officials to strengthen and streamline government operations.
"Drawing on a knowledge base built over 25 years and more than 450 financial management reviews, the page provides an array of new and more accessible resources geared to city and town officials looking to improve government practices — including advice on regionalization and shared services," said Robert Nunes, DLS Deputy Commissioner and Director of Municipal Affairs.
The new page offers financial calculators and tools for local communities to conduct revenue and expenditure forecasting; calculate a residential to commercial/industrial property tax shift; calculate debt service; calculate tax impacts; and to calculate the residential exemption.
It also organizes sound fiscal management practices by subject, has a page of regionalization resources and statutes, and a separate page for restructuring city and town government with links to special acts and general laws.
