Marshfield Airport Safety Day, March 7, 2012The Coast Guard joined the Marshfield Harbormaster this week in hosting a “Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Day” at Marshfield Municipal Airport, Harlow Field.  The event open to the public focused on safety, preparedness, and survival skills at sea and was geared toward commercial mariners, specifically fisherman and charter boat operators.

Visitors had the opportunity to tour an MH-60T helicopter and meet a Coast Guard flight crew on hand to answer questions on safety practices and life saving techniques. The event included a display of the Coast Guard Defender Class 25-foot safe boat, survival rafts and equipment, and a demonstration on Coast Guard P-6 dewatering pumps, the use of flares, and required boat safety equipment.

The event provided hands-on training and presented an opportunity for fishermen to learn, interact and build partnerships with other mariners to further promote safety awareness.
