I-90 Commonwealth Avenue Bridge GraphicMassDOT today announced the restoration of a fourth lane on I-90 Eastbound from the Commonwealth Avenue bridge to the Prudential Tunnel in Boston.

The restoration of four travel lanes comes after MassDOT completed safety upgrades by replacing the median system with a new jersey barrier system in that stretch.

Crews are scheduled to complete the realignment and restriping of the lanes in that stretch of roadway next week.

On June 18, MassDOT restored the fourth lane of the westbound side of I-90 in the same stretch of roadway.

The Commonwealth Avenue Superstructure Replacement Project involves the replacement of the existing bridge which carries Commonwealth Avenue and the MBTA Green Line (Line B) over the MBTA Commuter Rail Line and over I-90, (the Massachusetts Turnpike). Last year, Walsh Construction Company was awarded the contract with a bid of $81.8 million and was given notice to proceed in June 2015.
