I-90 WestonMassDOT advises motorists to plan ahead for travel during the upcoming Columbus Day holiday weekend, one of the busiest weekends of the year on state highways.

Traffic congestion should be expected during late afternoon hours on Thursday and Friday in particular on highways heading toward popular fall destinations including Cape Cod, New Hampshire and Maine.

To plan ahead, traffic information is available for download using the free RideWise Smartphone App that provides live traffic conditions. Please check MassDOT statewide live traffic cameras before you travel.

The Boston I-93 South HOV lane will open early on Thursday, October 6th at 2pm and on Friday, October 7th at 1pm. The HOV lane will not open on Monday, October 10th.

Free coffee will be served at the 18 service plazas along I-90 and other major state highways on Monday night, October 10th, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

To save time, money and gas, now is the perfect time to join E-ZPass in advance of All Electronic Tolling, which begins on the MassPike October 28th.

The MBTA will operate on a weekday schedule on Monday, October 10th.  Check mbta.com for details.

Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles offices will be closed for the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 10th. The Registry reminds motorists to “Skip the Line, Go Online” and visit www.massrmv.com to begin or complete many license and registration transactions.
