image001-4MassDOT is announcing that the resurfacing and intersection improvement operations have begun on Route 16 and Route 140 in Milford and Hopedale. On June 2, Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack and Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver joined members of the Massachusetts Legislature, officials from the Towns of Hopedale and Milford, members of the project team and other stakeholders to celebrate this groundbreaking for this construction project.

“This project is improving a well-traveled corridor between Milford and Hopedale, and most importantly making changes which will make it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and people of all abilities,” said Secretary Pollack. “We have appreciated the support of local leaders and the public during the planning and design process and we look forward to when the work will be completed.”

This $3.3 million project includes pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk reconstruction, and facilitating ADA accommodations on Route 16. The project also includes improvements to the intersection of Route 16 and Route 140, including upgraded signal equipment and widening, drainage improvements, and utility pole relocations for ADA compliancy on sidewalks.

“MassDOT is pleased to be starting construction and improving these intersections and roadways,” said Administrator Gulliver. “We thank the staff members who have designed and planned this project in ways that will provide benefits for all modes of travel, and we look forward to seeing the project completed.”

As a result of COVID-19, MassDOT worked closely with Milford Regional Medical Center to determine a work start date. The project is anticipated to be completed in September 2021.
