murtagh-massdot-board-dec-2018MassDOT has announced the appointment of Kathleen M. Murtagh, P.E. to the MassDOT Board of Directors as a replacement for outgoing Director Ruth Bonsignore.

“On behalf of the MassDOT Board, I wish to welcome Kathleen Murtagh to our team,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack. “Kathleen’s experience in the field of civil engineering and work for the MWRA and in the private sector will bring valuable knowledge and technical experience to the Board, and we look forward to her important contributions in the months ahead.”

Kathleen Murtagh is the Director of Tunnel Redundancy for the Metropolitan Tunnel Redundancy Program at the MWRA in Boston. Murtagh previously was employed by CDM Smith where she most recently held the position of Vice President of the company. She also worked as a geotechnical engineer at Haley & Aldrich. In total, Murtagh has more than 28 years of civil and geotechnical engineering experience.

Murtagh earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of New Hampshire and her Masters of Science in Civil Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Kansas, Illinois, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Michigan, and Maryland.

Murtagh is a current member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She previously served as the Chair for the Geo-Institute Executive Committee and on the Nominating Committee with the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. Murtagh was also an Organizing Committee Member for Soil and Rock America in 2003.

The MassDOT Board of Directors is comprised of 11 members appointed by the Governor and the Board oversees all MassDOT operations including the Highway Division, Rail and Transit, Aeronautics, the Registry of Motor Vehicles, Office of Planning and Programming and the Office of Performance Management and Innovation.
