nantucket-regional-transit-year-round-september-28-2018MassDOT Rail & Transit Deputy Administrator Thomas Schiavone joined ceremonies in late September to celebrate the beginning of winter service for the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA).

Since beginning service in 1995, NRTA buses stopped operating after the end of the “summer” season, in recent years after Columbus Day.  Now for the first time Nantucket residents will officially have public transportation all winter, providing easier access to work, shopping, recreation and holiday activities.

Winter service will be provided on the Mid Island Loop, Miacomet Loop and Sconset via Old South Road Route. Weekday service is scheduled for 7:00 am to 9:00 pm and weekend service 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Nantucket Regional Transit provides fixed route service during the summer months, servicing Madaket, Sconset along three different routes, Surfside and Jetties beaches, Nantucket Memorial Airport, downtown Nantucket and the Mid Island area. Times vary depending on the route.
