Cape Flyer Veterans Free TrainCapeFLYER is pleased to announce that for the second year, veterans and active service members may ride the train to Cape Cod for free on the Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend.

The CapeFLYER has coordinated with Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, which is hosting its 11th Annual Troops in the Spotlight at Kmart Plaza in Hyannis.

“Our service members, both active and veterans, have given so much to our country, this is just a small token of our appreciation and respect,” said Cape Cod Regional Transit Administrator Thomas S. Cahir. Troops in the Spotlight is a 24 hour event to honor and support our deployed troops, veterans, wounded warriors and honor our Gold Star Families and their “Fallen Heroes” Cape Cod Cares 4 the Troops. There are various activities and opportunities to support our troops. It begins on Sunday at 11:30AM and concludes on Monday at 11:30AM.

The CapeFLYER worked with the MBTA and Keolis to ensure that the CapeFLYER will also include the Gold Star Coach, a special coach that contains the names of the more than 130 Massachusetts members of the armed forces who have lost their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan. In order to receive the free fare, veterans and service members must either be in uniform or provide a valid military ID.

The CapeFLYER will run on Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day with the same schedule as its normal weekend operations (leaves South Station at 8AM and returns from Hyannis at 6:30PM). For schedules and information about the CapeFLYER, visit: www.capeflyer.com
