Gill Montague Bridge Ribboncutting, August 2016MassDOT Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack and Highway Administrator Thomas J. Tinlin joined Director of Governor Charlie Baker’s Western Massachusetts Office Michael Knapik, Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg, state and local officials today in Turners Falls to celebrate the complete rehabilitation of the Avenue A Bridge over the Connecticut River, better known as the Gill-Montague Bridge.

The $48 million project rehabilitated the 78-year old bridge, adding wider travel lanes for vehicles and improving bicycle accessibility.

In addition, the roadway approaches to the bridge and the existing steel truss structure on the bridge were restored and a new traffic signal was installed at the Route 2/Avenue A/Main Street intersection.
