As 2015 draws to a close, individuals and businesses are considering their year-end gifts to charity, and hoping to insure that they will be able to deduct the contributions from federal taxes.

“IRS Tax Tips for Deducting Gifts to Charity” can help with planning gifts of money or property. With “Tips from IRS for Year-End Gifts to Charity” , the IRS offers guidelines for monetary donations, rules for charitable contributions of clothing and household items, and additional reminders to help taxpayers plan their charitable gifts, basically the same information in a slightly different format.

Taxpayers can verify whether a charitable organization has achieved and maintained tax-exempt status. The IRS Exempt Organization Select Check is “an on-line search tool that allows users to search for and select an exempt organization and verify certain information about its federal tax status and filings.”

“Non-Profits & Charities Document Search” is a searchable database of reports filed by nonprofits with the attorney general’s office of Massachusetts. “Public Charities or Not-for-Profits” provides access to more information about the Attorney General’s oversight of non-profit and charitable organizations in Massachusetts.
