The Thanksgiving holiday means roast turkey for many people, but for those who want wild turkey, it should already be in your freezer.  The autumn turkey hunting season for 2015 was October 19th to October 31st.

The Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game has an excellent webpage devoted to the law about hunting wild turkeys, including the hunting season dates, bag limits, permits, types of weapons allowed, and all other pertinent regulations. The hunt is by permit only, so that the population of wild turkeys, once dismally low, can be maintained.  The limit is two turkeys annually, but an individual can only bag one turkey during the fall season.

The web site of the National Turkey Federation, a trade organization representing the turkey industry, has information on guidelines for raising turkeys, cooking recipes, and its annual presentation of a turkey to the President of the United States.  The Federation has been presenting a turkey to the President since 1947.  The tradition of the annual Turkey Pardoning Ceremony began with President George H.W. Bush in 1989.
