As part of the new Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code, which goes into effect on January 1, 2015, self service users of gas pumps in Massachusetts may have the opportunity to click on a clip that will make it unnecessary to continuously hold the lever of the gas nozzle while their fuel tanks fill.

This very noticeable change is a only one part of the adoption of National Fire Protection Association’s Model Fire Code, with Massachusetts amendments in  527 CMR , Code of Massachusetts Regulations for the Board of Fire Prevention.    As of January 1, 2015, the Model Fire Code and the Massachusetts amendments must be used together to understand the Massachusetts Fire Code.

The Code of Massachusetts Regulations, an index created by librarians, and frequently asked questions about the Code are available on our website.
