Marshfield Ribbon Cutting3MassDOT is pleased to announce the opening of the new Beach Street Bridge over the Cut River in Marshfield. On June 2, MassDOT Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack and Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver joined State Senator Patrick O’Connor, Marshfield Town Administrator Michael Maresco, project officials and other stakeholders to celebrate this milestone.

“When we invest in infrastructure, we invest in communities and people and we invest in making connections to each other,” said MassDOT Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack. “The completion of this bridge is one of many examples of how a strong municipal partnership can assist MassDOT with project planning and construction.”

“This is a project that we are very proud of,” said Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver. “Having the bridge replaced a year ahead of schedule, in a heavily utilized area, was only possible because of the fine engineering from MassDOT staff and having amazing partners like the Towns of Marshfield and Duxbury.”

In 2017, MassDOT Highway Division advertised the project to replace the existing Beach Street Bridge as it crosses the Cut River in Marshfield. The $3.4 million new bridge includes two 11-foot travel lanes, two 5-foot bicycle lanes, and sidewalks on both sides of the road.

Construction on the bridge began after Labor Day in 2019 and work was completed a full year prior to the original completion date.
