Toll Plaza Park and Ride Construction, August 2017

Toll Plaza Park and Ride Construction, August 2017

MassDOT is pleased to announce that the new Park and Ride lot adjacent to I-90 at Exit 11 (Route 122) in Millbury is opening today, Thursday, December 7.

This new Park and Ride parking lot was constructed starting in the fall of 2016 as part of MassDOT’s I-90 toll demolition and road reconstruction project. This public property now features an increased number of passenger vehicle parking spaces in order to better accommodate individuals who may be carpooling or utilizing public transit from the location.  There are 116 vehicle spaces and 6 ADA accessible spaces for a total of 122 parking spaces.

Commercial vehicle owners should note that there are no tandem trailer truck spaces available at this location but those commercial vehicles may use the Park and Ride lot located at Exit 10A on I-90 in Millbury. Variable message boards are now activated in order to notify drivers of the lot opening today.

The Baker-Polito Administration has invested over $2.8 billion since 2015 on highway construction projects and bridges, pavement, intersection and sidewalk improvements, and bike lanes, while authorizing over $700 million in Chapter 90 local transportation funding for cities and towns.  An additional $30 million has been invested through Complete Streets and Municipal Small Bridge programming to support local transportation planning and community bridges not eligible for federal aid.

Statewide, those investments have paved approximately 2,000 lane miles, enough to cross Massachusetts and back at least 5 times; installed 160 miles of sidewalk, almost encircling the Quabbin Reservoir; and rehabilitated or replaced approximately 80 bridges. Projects include installing new safety equipment, optimizing traffic configuration, lane and intersection widening and promoting reduced congestion.

MassDOT has appreciated the patience of the traveling public throughout the transition from manual fare collection to All Electronic Tolling on I-90.  Toll plaza demolition work that began in October 2016 is on or ahead of schedule at all 23 work locations and expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
