Zakim Bridge TrafficMassDOT encourages travelers to plan ahead and travel safely during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  The heaviest traffic is observed during Thursday, Friday, and Monday afternoons and early evenings.  Drivers are encouraged to make travel plans accordingly and if possible avoid peak traffic volumes between 1pm and 7pm on those days.

Traffic is especially heavy at the I-84 interchange at Exit 9 in Sturbridge on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and at Exit 11A, I-495, which handles cars headed south to Cape Cod and north to New Hampshire and Maine.

MassDOT will suspend all construction work on major arterial roadways from 12:00PM Noon on Friday, May 27 through the start of normal business on Tuesday, May 31.

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers reports that there will be no lane restrictions on the Sagamore Bridge during the Memorial Holiday weekend period.

Save time and fuel by joining E-ZPass to avoid waiting in line at cash toll booths. Travelers are reminded that the Tobin Bridge has converted to All-Electronic Tolling system using E-ZPass or Pay-by-Plate.

Free coffee will be served at the 18 MassDOT service plazas on Memorial Day, May 30, from 10 pm Monday night through 5 am Tuesday morning.

The MBTA will operate buses, subways and commuter rail on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day.

All RMV offices will be closed Monday, May 30 in observance of the holiday. Many transactions can be initiated or completed online.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Office of Diversity and Civil Rights (ODCR) is seeking proposals from qualified bidders able to provide Pre-Apprentice Training, with a concentration in transportation and/or highway construction to low-income, minority, youth, or young adult populations. The purpose of this Request for Response (RFR) is to secure the services of multiple organizations including public schools that can assist MassDOT by providing pre-apprenticeship training to eligible participants. The approval of the federal infrastructure bill will increase the need for jobs, especially in the construction and maintenance sectors.
