Springfield I-91ViaductMassDOT has scheduled the first Public Information Meeting for the I-91 Viaduct Study as follows:

Tuesday, December 15, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel, Mahogany Room, 2nd Floor, One Monarch Place, Springfield

MassDOT initiated this study to identify existing issues and evaluate alternatives for I-91 from I-291 to the Connecticut State line. The project team will present an overview of the study area; goals, objectives, and evaluation criteria; role of the Working Group; existing conditions data collection; and project opportunities and constraints. The public is encouraged to attend to learn more about the study and provide feedback.

Springfield leaders have been discussing options for improving their city’s economy and environment. MassDOT initiated the I-91 Viaduct Study to identify existing issues and evaluate alternative alignments for the viaduct section. These may include examination of at-grade and below-grade alternatives, which may be less disruptive to the urban environment and provide a regional highway connection that is more environmentally and financially sustainable in the long-term than the existing configuration.

MassDOT is simultaneously replacing the deck of the I-91 viaduct to address urgent safety needs for the I-91 Viaduct Rehabilitation Project. The I-91 Viaduct Study is a conceptual planning study to develop recommendations for a long-term vision for I-91.
