RMV Skip the LineThe MassDOT Registry of Motor Vehicles today introduced a streamlined driver’s license renewal option for online eligible customers on MassRMV.com. The more convenient online transaction is intended to help customers avoid a trip to an RMV branch and help reduce wait times during peak demand periods including the annual April School Vacation rush.

“We are excited to announce this new mobile friendly feature on our website that will allow 63 percent of customers that renew each year to do so more easily,” said Registrar Erin C. Deveney. “This is just the latest in a series of improvements the RMV designed to offer customers the RMV experience anytime, anywhere with as much convenience as possible.”

The Driver’s License Renewal transaction was redesigned to improve the customer experience. The new look and feel of the transaction is more streamlined and allows customers to complete their transactions quickly and more efficiently. The updated design features a new step by step progress bar which allows for customers to easily see the steps to complete their renewal. This new design also allows customers to easily register to vote, register or change an organ donation status, and update their address on file with the RMV.

The updated license renewal transaction also is the first transaction on MassRMV.com to be optimized for a mobile device. You can now easily complete your driver’s license renewal on your phone.

Eligible Class D (passenger vehicle) and/or Class M (motorcycle) license holders may renew their license online. Customers are eligible to renew their license online as long as their last license renewal was not processed online, they do not require an updated photo, and if they are under the age of 75 at the time of renewal. Customers with outstanding financial obligations will need to address issues such as parking tickets, citation payments, and E-ZPass violations prior to renewal.

Customers may check their renewal status online using the Check My Status transaction.

Approximately 276,000 license renewals were performed online at MassRMV.com in 2015. Currently the RMV offers 25 transactions that can be done online for eligible customers. The Driver’s License Renewal transaction update is part of larger MassRMV.com website improvements.
