Van, AccessibilityThe MassDOT Rail & Transit Division’s Community Transit Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2016 has received more than 90 applications, a 50% increase compared to last year. Applications were due on March 2.

The Community Transit Grant Program provides financial assistance through the Federal Transit Administration and the Commonwealth to Regional Transit Authorities, Private Non-Profits/For-Profits, Councils on Aging, and municipalities that provide transit service and State Agencies to improve, maintain and operate service.

This year’s applicants represent expanded interest in the grant program:

• The Community Transit Grant Program has received more than 90 applications, a 50% increase over the number of applications last year.
• The requested funding has totaled over $30,000,000, a near tripling of the amount requested last year.
• Out of 51 applying organizations, 13 have never applied to the program.
• Applications came in from transit agencies, nonprofits, and municipalities around the Commonwealth.
• The growth in interest in the Community Transit Grant Program is the result of outreach to human service transportation providers, coordination activities through the Regional Coordinating Councils, and the development of the online grant application platform, GrantsPlus.

MassDOT expects to announce the recipients of FY 2016 grants during the first week of April.  For more information, visit the Community Transit Grant Program webpage or contact Price Armstrong, Transit and Capital Analyst: price.armstrong@state.ma.us, or by phone at 857-368-955.
