Winter Traffic WestonMassDOT and the MBTA encourage commuters to plan ahead and take necessary steps to ensure safe travel during this week’s cold weather.

If you are driving, be sure to Prepare Your Vehicle and bring Winter Car Supplies.

Follow Safe Driving Tips and know what to do In Case You’re Stranded or in an accident during extreme weather.

Check MassDOT’s Safe Winter Driving web page to learn more.

The MBTA has put its winter plan into action. In addition to regular equipment weatherization, subway trains’ air tanks and air lines are flushed out to avoid freezing; trains are being stored in tunnels and maintenance facilities overnight; extra subway personnel are on hand to constantly move trains, test brakes, cycle doors and check air systems; track personnel are prepared to quickly repair any cracked or broken rails; switches and switch heaters are checked to ensure the equipment is functioning properly, and the MBTA will pre-stage extra buses along subway lines in the event supplemental service is necessary.

For service impacts and information, check MBTA.com and sign up to receive T-Alerts.
